DeleteOh how wonderful you have a Hitty Kauri. My Hitty Moana was Hitty Kauri - but she decided to have a name change...still reflecting her heritage though :-) Looks like she is well and truly settled in, and has a wonderful outfit as well.
ReplyDeleteGreetings Serenata - I Did See Yours, She is Beautiful!!! Was she by Fung Hicks? My first Hitty in mahogany was from Fung and I adore her work!. I was so Excited waiting for Hitty Kauri to arrive that I was searching all over the net for more info on Ancient Kauri and was so Thrilled when I saw your Lovely Hitty Moana and we even left a comment on your blog Welcoming! I love that name, and how incredibly special our sisters are! Hitty Kauri sends Fond HuGs to her Sister Hitty Moana and TiGGs sends Kissies Too! :)

DeleteOh I think Hitty Moana is blushing now to be sent kissies from TiGGs, you have made her day!
Hi Tiggy! Wow, that is a very impressive doll! The carving and coloring are brilliantly done! I know nothing about Hitty dolls, you'll have to clue me in! Kind regards, Brian.
ReplyDeleteGreetings Brian - I am so Glad visited and asked this question. I first discovered dolls as a fascinating artistic medium when I saw a series of photos of an 1890's mannequin in Life Magazine, that led me to exploring and I came across hand carved Hitty dolls. That led me to a remarkable book by Rachel Field and illustrated by Dorothy Lathrop - look for the editions with these two as there is a similarly titled book which is Not the original book. Rachel Field was a successful Hollywood screen writer with a slew of Bette Davis and other great films to her credit. Dorothy Lathrop was a beautiful illustrator and they both came across the original Hitty in an antique shop in NYC and wrote and illustrated a rather magnificent book together "Hitty Her First Hundred Years" it won the Newberry Medal in 1930 and is so cinematic my husband adores this book too. The original Hitty flew to the ceremonies along with Rachel Field and was given to her friend Dorothy Lathrop when she died. The original Hitty doll now resides in the Stockbridge Library Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts and someday we plan on a pilgrimage there. Its an amazing book on so many levels and I have no idea why its never been turned into a movie as its so remarkably cinematic and very action filled. Let me know if you read it, I think you will be blown away! TiGGy and Hitty Kauri send Love!
DeleteAbsolutely beautiful wood! Two beautiful buds! A friendship made on fairie heaven.
